Tara Melik
Tara is the behind-the-scenes driving force behind Hot To Trot Racing, covering everything from memberships, to events and accounts, and everything in between! She also enjoys going racing and to stable visits to host our Members and get up close to the horses.
Tara has a varied background and she has used her excellent administrative skills to great effect in various interesting roles. Much of her experience comes from the Charitable Sector, where she was Project Manager for the Duchess of York’s Children In Crisis charity amongst other roles. She has worked in prisons, private households and for several small businesses, all while raising her two children Lois and George.
Tara first met Luke back in 1992 when he was starting out as a Bloodstock Agent and she was looking for some diversion from the City. Tara provided administrative support for Luke at that point, and when Hot To Trot expanded after Heartache’s Royal Ascot win in 2017, Tara was the perfect addition to the team!
In her spare time Tara is a keen tennis player and outdoor swimmer. She also enjoys the theatre and, of course, racing! She is often found walking her (very) little terrier, Twig.
Clare Lawes
Clare provides administrative support for Hot To Trot as well as hosting on race days and at stable visits throughout the year.
Clare is a graduate of the University Of Edinburgh with lots of hands-on experience in the racing/bloodstock industry, having worked for trainers Nicky Henderson and Ralph Beckett amongst others. She has also spent time working for Musselburgh Racecourse and completed the BHA Graduate Scheme with a placement with the Newmarket based charity, The Racing Centre.
She grew up in the racing world in Scotland and is married to National Hunt trainer Toby Lawes, so a great deal of her life revolves around the thoroughbred! This continues in her free time with her two ex-racehorses, one of whom is the legendary chaser Bristol De Mai. Clare also enjoys the great outdoors with her pug Beetle, and spending time with her family and friends.
Georgina Bell
Georgina was very fortunate to be brought up at Mount Coote Stud in Ireland and has been involved in the racing industry for as long as she can remember. Having ridden all her life, she represented Ireland in the 3 Day Event Junior and Young Rider European Championships and won the Punchestown National Championship in 1984. She was married to trainer Michael Bell for 23 years and was part of the incredible Derby and Oaks winning team with Motivator in 2005 and Sariska in 2009. A talented work rider, Georgina regularly rode a number of memorable horses including Red Evie (multiple Group 1 Winner) and has been fortunate to ride for legendary trainers Henry Cecil and Roger Varian and also ridden out for jump trainers John Ferguson and Nick Wright. Alongside Hot to Trot, Georgina works part time for Tattersalls Auctioneers and equestrian property agent, George Windsor-Clive.
Georgina is a great asset to our team thanks to her vast experience and is often seen hosting our Members on race days and at Hot To Trot events.
