Castellina (GB)
Castellina (GB)
2022 Chesnut filly by Territories ex Firenze (Efisio)
This filly is by the Prix Jean Prat (Group 1) winner and 2,000 Guineas runner-up Territories who is now proving himself as a more than useful stallion at stud with the likes of last year’s Haydock Sprint Cup winner, Regional, and Derby runner-up Hoo Ya Mal flying the flag and highlighting his versatility as a stallion.
The dam Firenze won at listed level herself and has already produced two Listed class sprinters in the shape of Mazzini and Harry’s Bar. Firenze is a half-sister to the July Cup winner Frizzante as well as Listed and Stewards Cup winner Zidane. All of these horses have been bred/raced by Jan and Peter Hopper who are leasing us this athletic filly. The family is all speed and whilst not always early sorts, they improve well with time/racing which could mean that Castellina starts the new season on a workable handicap mark.

The include five time Group 1 winner Soviet Song, Champion Hurdle winner Hors La Loi III, the much loved Group 1 winning sprinter The Tin Man, many other Group 1 winners. 2023 saw one of James’s best ever seasons numerically with 50 winners and he will no doubt be looking to build on that this season!
