Racing Together Community Day
A fascinating, enjoyable and rewarding day was had by all in May when Hot To Trot joined the industry-wide Racing Together Community Day, which aimed to encourage participants from the racing world to volunteer in their local community.
This was an ideal opportunity for Hot To Trot members to give back to our sport, and therefore much thought went into the planning of our day! Greatwood Charity, near Marlborough, was chosen due to its worthwhile cause, connection to the racing industry, and for being the perfect place for our Hot To Trotters to “muck in and muck out!”
Greatwood is an inspiring charity, helping both retired racehorses and disadvantaged children and young adults simultaneously through Animal Assisted Intervention Programmes (AAI).
The day started with an introduction to the Charity and a thorough explanation of its aims and processes from the inspiring team of staff at Greatwood. The Hot To Trot members met the retired racehorses who now have an incredibly important role helping young people through the power of animal interaction. The success stories told by the Greatwood team were amazing and reminded everyone what a worthwhile and important charity this is, helping both disadvantaged young people, and horses who need a second career after racing.
After learning all about the charity, it was time for the Hot To Trotters to do some work! This included poo picking, mucking out stables and plenty of other sweaty jobs – all for a good cause!
Everyone came away from the day feeling inspired by the Charity and those involved, and pleased that they could get involved in some small way on Racing Together Community Day. We very much hope that this can be a yearly event, so bring on the next challenge!
