New flat teams for 2024!
We are delighted to announce our new teams of horses for 2024, with some exciting older fillies and beautifully bred two year olds to go to war with!
Starting with Hot To Trot 1, we have plenty of new faces on the team but one familiar one is Dreamrocker (Ed Walker, Lambourn). She is a scopey filly who was always going to be better in time, as her wonderful pedigree dictates. She broke her maiden in good style at Salisbury in the summer and Ed feels she could be a smart prospect for 2024.
A new addition Cabrera (Ed Bethell, Middleham) is a lovely new filly by the exciting young sire Phoenix Of Spain. Already rising 3 years old, she has a season of training under her belt and could be ready to run very early in the spring, perhaps even on the all-weather before the turf season kicks off. Her dam, Island Remede, was a Group placed stayer herself.
The new two-year-olds are an especially strong bunch with some early looking types and great pedigrees!
The Sergei Prokofiev / Hand On My Heart filly (Clive Cox, Lambourn) is the first foal of the very talented Hand On My Heart (a half-sister to our Queen Mary winner Heartache) who raced in the Hot To Trot silks and was trained by Clive. She is by Whitsbury Manor’s exciting first season sire Sergei Prokofiev. Another daughter of that stallion is the Sergei Prokofiev / Mutoon filly (Jack Channon, West Ilsley), a powerful early two-year-old sort who could give us plenty of fun early in the summer.
The Bated Breath / Love Your Looks filly (Stuart Williams, Newmarket) is a full-sister to the Group 2 winner Breathtaking Look, and the Time Test / Spring Run filly (Jonny Portman, Lambourn) is a very athletic sort who is out of a half-sister to Jonny’s Sandringham Handicap winner Anecdote.
Last but not least, we have the Wootton Bassett / Sea Prose filly (Owen Burrows, Lambourn) who is by one of the leading sires in Europe. She is the first foal of the Group 3 placed mare Sea Prose who was placed in a French 1,000 Guineas trial and looks to have a lot of class about her.
If that looks like a strong team, 2Hot2Trot gives it a run for its money with a lovely balance of old and new! The very talented Rage Of Bamby (Eve Johnson Houghton, Blewbury), a Group placed 2 year old who bounced right back to form at York in August, has huge potential in Listed/Group company this season. If she can improve over the winter into her four year old year, as sprinters often do, she could be a very interesting prospect indeed. Our own Get Ahead did just that and, while Rage Of Bamby has a way to go to be reaching her sort of heights, we can certainly dream!
Another filly that we can have plenty of fun campaigning this year is Apeeling (Andrew Balding, Kingsclere),who’s first three runs were very promising and has been given an initial rating of 77. A win looks a formality in the spring and then a race like the Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot might be on the cards!
Quite A Dream (Ollie Sangster, Manton) ran well above expectations when finishing a promising third on debut at Salisbury before meeting a setback. Now over her issue, she should be ready to run early in the spring and could start off in the Whitsbury Manor Stud Stakes at Bath in mid-April.
We are thrilled with the new two year olds recruited to 2H2T this year with some outstanding pedigrees and gorgeous individuals in there.
The Dark Angel / White Daffodil filly (Clive Cox, Lambourn) is a full-sister to the Group 1 winning sprinter Khaadem and was bought back in for 320,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale. The Due Diligence / Satsuma filly (John Quinn) is a full sister to Good Vibes and a half sister to our own Apeeling. She is a smashing invidual who should run early.
The Territories / Firenze filly (James Fanshawe, Newmarket) is a half-sister to two Listed sprinters in Mazzini and Harry’s Bar, whilst her dam won a Listed race herself. Finally, the Mohaather / Kerry’s Dream filly (Tom Ward) is a powerful sort from the first crop of the immensely talented Mohaather. She is a half-sister to the Listed-winning 2yo Ventura Mist.
We really are thrilled with that line-up and can’t wait to see them all in training when our stable visits start in the spring!
