Sea Poetry (FR)
2022 Bay filly by Wootton Bassett ex Sea Prose (Lope De Vega)
This filly is by Wootton Bassett, one of the most exciting European sires of the moment. He was an unbeaten two-year-old, including winning the Group 1 Prix Jean Luc Lagadere on Arc day. After an incredible start at stud with the French Derby and Champion Stakes winner Almanzor in his first crop, he was snapped up by Coolmore and has the likes of the wonderful Champion Stakes winning of 2023 King Of Steel to fly his flag this season. He is standing for €200,000 at Coolmore Stud in Ireland this year.
The dam Sea Prose, a daughter of another top stallion in Lope De Vega, was Group 3 placed in a French 1000 Guineas trial before going on to finish 10th in the French 1,000 Guineas itself when fancied. She hails from a great French family which is very ‘live’ at present.
This filly is leased from Mr Eddie Walsh in Ireland.

Trainer
Owen is a former jump jockey who started training as a private trainer for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum after twelve years as assistant to the great Sir Michael Stoute, during which time he was involved in the careers of several Derby, Arc De Triomphe and Breeders Cup winners. Owen trained his first Group 1 winners in 2022 with Hukum in the Coronation Cup and Minzaal in the Haydock Sprint Cup capping a memorable year. Hukum went on to win the King George at Ascot last season, and was beautifully handled by Owen throughout his career. Owen is now able to take horses for outside owners at his purpose built Farncombe Down Stables outside Lambourn where he operates at a very high strike-rate from his relatively small team of horses.
