Get Ahead gains Listed win at Haydock

 In Uncategorized

A red-letter day for Get Ahead at Haydock on Friday when she achieved her first Listed win in the 6 furlong Cecil Frail Stakes under a confident ride from Richard Kingscote. This powerful and tough filly has been knocking on the door of this kind of race, placing in several Listed races over the past two seasons, and deserved to get this Black Type win against her name.

Richard got plenty of cover after leaving the stalls, allowing Get Ahead to settle at the rear of the field before making his move. She travelled like much the best horse throughout the race, and when the buttons were pushed she responded well, winning by a very comfortable 1 1/4 lengths.

Trainer Clive Cox has always had great faith in this filly and was hopeful that she would improve at 4. She seems to have done just that, a remarkable feat considering her sharpness at 2. There are a wealth of options for her throughout the season now, probably mostly back over 5 furlongs but she may be seen over 6 furlongs again at some stage. Get Ahead won over £28,000 on Friday and has certainly added to her already considerable value (being a half-sister to 2000 Guineas winner Chaldean) as a broodmare prospect when she retires from the track; we hope to have a plenty more fun along the way first though!

Huge congratulations go to Clive Cox and his team, Owner/Breeders Whitsbury Manor Stud and to all the members of Hot To Trot 1 – what a thrill to be involved with a filly like this!
